The Ayushmann Khurrana-fronted social dramedy, Doctor G has opened above expectations at the box office in India. According to early estimates, the movie has collected in the range of Rs. 3.00 to 3.50 crores on the opening day, which is around 50% more than the industry expectations, which was in the range of Rs. 2.00 to 2.50 crores.

Doctor G has done well in the multiplexes as the lost audience of Ayushmann Khurrana has finally come back to the cinema halls. The opening of Anek had sent shock waves in the industry, with some even talking about how the market for mid-sized films was over, but this start of Doctor G, without many promotions and any hit songs, has come across as a sigh of relief.

The package of comedy packed with socially relevant subjects with the presence of Ayushmann Khurrana spiked some interest in the audience and now the word of mouth will decide its fate in the longer run. The film has fared better than Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui in the multiplexes and if the single screens also reflect the same trend, it has a chance of surprising by getting closer to the Rs. 4 crore opening.

The audience talk from early shows seemed to be decent. And now all eyes are on the Saturday growth. If Doctor G manages to jump by 50 to 60%, it can surprise by putting up a lifetime in the north of Rs. 30 crores. Doctor G is amongst the least hyped Ayushmann Khurrana films in recent times and hence, the results are surprising.
